Dr. Peter Ray

His background and passion

While studying engineering at University, Dr. Peter Ray came to realize that his true passion resided elsewhere. After seeing his aunt being treated by a chiropractor for neck pain following a car accident, he witnessed first hand the power of natural healing and the great human interaction that exists between doctor and patient. After making a radical career change, he feels privileged to be part of a healing profession that simultaneously helps people and teaches them to take care of themselves.

With an open mind, he embraced chiropractic and acupuncture. He traveled to the underserved areas of the world to learn new techniques of healing under Professor Sir Anton Jayasuriya, MD. Professor Jayasuriya’s lifetime motto was: “Let us give people back their health and return the smile to their faces.” He was known for his sincere desire to help people, made everyone laugh and profoundly inspired Dr. Ray. It was at Kalubowila Medical Hospital in Columbo Sri Lanka, that Dr. Ray began treating patients with acupuncture. Eagerly, he awoke every day looking to learn more and contribute to a sick person’s life. It is truly in a situation like this that a healing doctor learns the sincere appreciation of his patients. This enormous gratification solidified his decision to practice the healing arts.

By teaching people to be conscious of how they treat their bodies, their health becomes a way of life rather than something that needs patching up. He takes time to talk with them about their options, helping them set health goals mindful of the fact that health is more than absence of disease.

Dr. Peter Ray acquired this philosophy while working in remote villages in Sri Lanka and the Maldives: “There, I realized it was essential to not only treat patients but to educate them on how to manage their own healthcare because it might be weeks or even months before another doctor would be there”. He brings this proactive and educational approach to his practice here in Westminster, Colorado.

Dr. Peter Ray has always has an insatiable and curious side to him. He has completed the Whiplash and Brain Injury Traumatology Program at the Spine Research Institute of San Diego where graduates receive the most in-depth, science-based training available today. This is the only advanced certification program of its kind where Medical Doctors, Chiropractors and Personal Injury Attorneys come to learn the true science behind automobile accidents.

By completing this certification, Dr. Peter Ray gains an in-depth knowledge of the scientific literature supporting chiropractic care as well as understanding the mechanics of occupant related injuries in car crashes. Many variables occur in a car accident, knowing them and understanding their implications in spinal trauma is essential in knowing how to treat those injuries. While spinal trauma is inevitable in a car crash, ligaments and muscles also get torn, overstretched and injured as well. The most common symtoms following a car accident are neck pain, headaches, back pain, shoulder pain as well as numbness and tingling down an arm.

Dr. Ray began using dry-needling methods to heal muscle spasms in Sri Lanka. Injured muscles shorten and develop knots that become painful. Witnessing the great benefits of dry-needling, he got certified as soon as possible in Colorado to practice this form of treatment. Today, Dr. Peter Ray is a whiplash doctor specialist that works in Westminster Colorado. Dry-needling is still fairly new to the western world, but it is gaining popularity at a rapid rate because of it’s huge upside potential of success and very little downside of failure and side-effects. Automobile insurances are now covering this treatment.
